The winter garden

The first nasturtiums are out, all yellow except for one blood red.

Green and red stars of the poinsettia are stirringly beautiful.

Deep blue sky.

The sun is almost too hot but its cold inside.

Pigeons give their lazy oo-call and the honeyeater squeaks three times.

Its very green after a wet autumn.

We have no fruit now but the herbs are flourishing.

Some petunias but pansies yet to flower.

  1. Dumela Manquindi, Ja bietjie maar nie vrek koud diekant! Trust you and your family are in fine health today today. This side the avos are nearly all finished. At least the cold keeps them from ripening and we can use the tree as a storage, enabling us to pick just enough for our own needs. Its azalea, protea, poinsettia and our magnolia time with us with the vuur pyle also starting. The one azalea has had flowers on for three months. I have neve seen that before From the human point of view, I have a quiet feeling of peace post elections as the thin edge of the wedge is now firmly in the ANC door and of course the whole of KZN has gone MK, dreaming of JG Zuma as another Shaka. Yes, the weeds are only whispering now compared with summer where their taunts can be heard during the night I am looking forward to having bananas once more in summer. The bunches that develop in late April remain static the whole of winter, developing after the first heavy rains and hotter weather later in the year. I love watching with much glee, the frustrated antics of the monkeys dancing with frustration on the cages I have made to reserve the bananas for only human use. Have a Blessed Rest of the weekend and week ahead. Tsamya Hantle, Your Umfaan from the Malutis, Thabo P.S. When Treed By LIONS and sitting on the same branch as them, with God’s Help enjoy the view.
